     Nathaniel was born on Friday, 20 February 1784 in Howells Depot, the town of Wallkill, Orange County, New York. Nathaniel married Elizabeth Miller, daughter of William Miller, on 7 July 1806 in Orange County, New York. The family resided at Mount Hope, Orange County, New York. The 1810 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at the Town of Wallkill, Orange County, New York, the family of Nath'l Mapes [00110:21100].3 The 1820 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at the Town of Wallkill the family of Nathaniel Mapes [21001:1011].4 Nathaniel's wife, Elizabeth, died on 11 March 1825 in the town of Mount Hope, Orange County, New York, leaving him a widower. Nathaniel married Anier Almina Corwin on 5 December 1827 in Orange County, New York. The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Calhoun, Orange County, New York, the family of Nathaniel Mapes [1002101:0010111].5 6 September 1850, Nathaniel and his wife, Anier, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in the town of Mount Hope. Enumerated in this household were Nathaniel Mapes [66 New York], his wife: Armena [61 New York], Isaiah H. [21 New York], Hector Page [28 New York], & Thomas A. Mapes [23 New York].6 Nathaniel departed this life on Thursday, 22 July 1852 in the town of Mount Hope at age 68 years, 5 months and 2 days. He was buried at Howells, the town of Wallkill in the Mapes Burying Ground.

On July 5, 1806 he was married to Elizabeth Miller who was born July 31, 1786 and died Mar. 11, 1825. They settled near Howells, N. Y. where their five children were born. His second wife was Anier Corwin who was born Jan. 16, 179 0 whom he married on Dec. 6, 1827 Nathaniel Mapes died on Apr. 22, 1852 and he and his first wife were buried in the Mapes Family Burying Ground at Howells, N.
