Abner was born on Friday, 21 September 1792 in Howells Depot, Orange County, New York. Abner married Jemimah Decker on 28 September 1815. Abner departed this life on Saturday, 7 February 1835. He was buried at Monticello, Sullivan County, New York, in St. John's Cemetery. This cemetery is next to the Episcopal Church.

- [S76] Frank Mapes Ham, Mapes Family of America, page 170 - ABNER MAPES was born Sept. 21, 1792 and died Feb. 7, 1835. On Sept. 28, 1815 he married Jemimah Decker, daughter of David Decker and Abigail Webb. She was born Dec. 18, 1791 and died April 1, 1855. They were buried in Old St. John's Cemetery, next to the Episcopal Church at Monticello, N. Y. Their children, checked against a copy of the Decker Family Bible in 1960, were: Emily Ann Mapes b. Sept. 27, 1816, Louisa Mapes b. July 15, 1821.
