     Michel was born on Saturday, 14 December 1641 in Brie-sous-Matha, Saintonge, Poitou, France. He was christened there on 15 December 1641 in St-Pierre Church.1 Michel married Jeanne Mercier on 9 February 1659 in Brie-sous-Matha at St-Pierre Church.1 In about 1670 the family immigrated from France to Quebec. he is first found on record there in that year. He was noted as being a shop keeper. 1681, Michel and Jeanne were listed on the Canadian Census in St-Michel-de-Bellechasse, La Durantaye, Bellechasse County, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Michael Maillou [40 years], Jeanne Mercier [45 years], Jeanne [7 years], Marie [5 years], Henriette [3 years] & Francoise [14 months].2 Michel's wife, Jeanne, died between 16 November 1699 and 3 September 1702 in Quebec, Canada, leaving him a widower. A contract for the marriage of Michel Maillou & Madeleine Groteau was signed on 3 September 1702 at Quebec, Canada. The contract written by Michel Laferte dit Lapailleur states that Michel is the widower of Jeanne Mercie and Madeleine is a widow of Francois Marchand.3 Michel's wife, Madeleine, died on 5 September 1703 in Hotel-Dieu, ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, leaving him a widower. Michel departed this life in St-Vallier, Bellechasse County, Quebec, Canada. He was buried there in the churchyard of St-Philippe & St-Jacques on Friday, 2 July 1728.4
