Important Notes: For years it has been noted that Abigail was the daughter of Ralph Lines - recently, our research brought us to another Ralph Lines whose parents where Raph and Alice of New Haven. This started us doing futher reseach on Raph. Unfotunately, there is not a lot of information, we did find that Ralph and Alice got married about the same time as Abigai, that is 1649, no other Ralph that could be their father, could be found - thus, making Ralph and Abigail brother and sister, and not father and daughter. Hopefully, futher information will come to light. We did find, while searching the internet, an article posted by Stephen Bogner 5 Oct 2009:
"Regarding Abigail Lines (1629-1686), wife of Richard Terry (1618-1675)of Southold - She is often recorded as the daughter of Ralph Lines, due to a note from an early researcher who stated that "she was probably the daughter of Ralph Lines who died in New Haven in 1640", this information being propogated through the years. This belief is certainly incorrect. In fact, Ralph Lines of New Haven lived until 07 September 1689, and his children with Alice Budd are known (Samuel, Ralph, John, Joseph,Benjamin, Hannah). My research indicates that Abigail Lines was the daughter of John Lynes (b.1587 Badby, Northampton, England; m. Ann Russell c. 1620; surviving chidren Henry b. 1622, Ralph b.1623,Joan b.1628, Abigail b.1629) It seems that both of her parents having died, Abigail resided with her brother Ralph in New Haven until her marriage at age 20 to Richard Terry on 22 May 1649. Perhaps since it was known at the time that she came from the household of Ralph Lines, and that her father was dead (dying perhaps about 1640), it was wrongly rumored that Ralph Lines was both her father and dead. Any evidence to either confirm or refute would be welcome."
This all sounds great - we did find that both the Lines and Russell families did reside in this area - unfortunatey, we could find nothing of a John Lines married to an Ann Russell or their children in this area. We did write Mr. Bogner asking for some help with the sources for the info he posted - as of yet he has not responded. We also found another site, Family Central.net, which gives John Lines married 23 Aug 1612 to Ann Russell in Badby, Northampton with children: John, Henry [13 Dec 1615], Joseph [30 May 1619], Elizabeth [5 Nov 1620], Joan [20 Oct 1628], Ralph & Abigail. SOURCES: Internet IGI Aug 2007, 1998 Ancestral File & 1997 Ordinance Index. We checked the IGI on 4 Feb 2013 and Family Search, and found nothing to verify the above - KLM - 5 February 2013. Abigail was born circa 1629 in England. Abigail married Richard Terry, son of Mr. Terry and Mrs. Terry, on 22 May 1649 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Abigail's husband, Richard, died on 16 July 1675 at his farm "Quashanecs" in the Town of Southold leaving her a widow. Abigail departed this life after 1686/87 in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, at her farm "Quashanecs" in the Town of Southold. She was buried there in the First Presbyterian Church burying ground in the village of Southold.
