Jeanne Legendre

     Jeanne was born circa 1636 in St-Denis-les-Rebais, Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de -France, France.1 On 15 May 1669, Jeanne left her home in France aboard the ship, "St-Jean-Baptiste", under the command of Captain Pierre Fillye, as one of 149 young ladies who were "Filles de Roi". These young ladies boarded the ship at either Dieppe or La Rochelle & were under the care of Madame Bourdon. They arrived at Quebec on the 30th of June..2 A contract for the marriage of Claude Sauvageau & Jeanne Legendre was signed on 3 December 1669 at Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec, Canada. It was drawn up by the notary, Jean Cusson. It notes that Claude originated from Marce, diocese de Tours & his parents as Jean Sauvageau & Marguerite Oauvre. It noted Jeanne as originally being from St-Denis, Province de la Brie & her parents as Isaac Gendre & Claude Lentonne.3 1681, Jeanne and her husband, Claude, were listed on the Canadian Census in Grondines, Portneuf County, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Claude Sauvageot [35 years], Jeanne Legendre [45 years], Alexis [10 years] & Marie [8 years].4 Jeanne departed this life on Thursday, 1 March 1714 in Grondines, Portneuf County, Quebec, Canada.5 She was buried there in the churchyard of St-Charles-de-Roches on Friday, 2 March 1714.6
