Simon was born in Great Rollright, Oxfordshire, England. He was the dispenser to King Henry I [1100-1135]. This is noted specifically in 1120 and 1130. He was also dispenser for King Stephen [1135-1154]. Simon was with King Henry from 1117 until 1720 in Normandy. He came into possession of Markham church after the death of Faricus, Abbot of Abingdon, probalby as nephew of Abbot Rainald and heir to the Abbot's son Willliam. There is also a record in Gloucestershire identifying Odard of Carlisle as his sister's son. The last mention of Stephen is in his giving Tadmarton with his daughter to Walter filius Hingani.2 Simon died before 1153 as his son Thurstan had succeeded him in that year.2
