Anna Lake Cotton

     Anna was born on Tuesday, 12 October 1683 in Boston in the Massachuetts Bay Colony. She was the daugher of Captain Thomas Lake and Mary Goodyear. Anna married Dr. Increase Mather, son of Reverand Richard Mather and Catherine Holt, in 1715. Anna departed this life on Friday, 29 March 1737 in Brookline, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She was buried there in Walnut Street Cemetery. The inscription on her tombstone reads: Here Lyes Buried the Body of Mrs. ANNA MATHER, Widow of the Rev. Doctor INCREASE MATHER of Boston. Note: She was Formerly the Wife of the Rev. Mr. JOHN COTTON of Hampton. She Deceased March the 29th 1737 In the 74th Year of her Age.¹
