Jacques Johiel dit Bergerac

     Jacques was born in 1641 in France. He was the son of Etienne Joyal & Suzanne Massot.¹ A contract for the marriage of Jacques and Marie-Gertrude Moral dit St Quentin was signed on 2 November 1676. It is noted in the contract that Jacques brought 1500 livres to the marriage while Gertruede brought 600 Livres and the title of Lady inherited from her mother. Jacques married Marie-Gertrude Moral dit St Quentin, daughter of Quentin Moral and Marie Marguerie, on 10 November 1676 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, at the church of the Immaculate Conception.² Jacques & Gertrude had children: Jacques [6/19/1678], Marie-Gertrude [5/19/1681-4/16/1712][m. 2/19/1703 Joseph Forcier], Jean [9/22/1683-9/18/1776][m. 11/26/1707 Francoise Cartier & 2nd 2/01/1723 Marie-Therese Ganier], Josephe [1686-4/12/1693], Jean Baptiste [1688-4/12/1693], Marie-Josephe [9/21/1690-10/31/1779][m. 11/28/1711 Pierre Abraham dit Desmarest], Francois [1692-10/19/1761][m. 4/27/1716 Marie-Catherine Raults dit Lavegne], Joseph [1/10/1694-2/14/1787][m. 4/09/1731 Marie Madeleine Patri] & Antoine [4/04/1696-5/11/1773][m. 11/21/1719 Marguerite Patry] .³ 1681, Jacques and Marie-Gertrude were listed on the Canadian Census in Trois-Rivieres. Enumerated in this household were Jacques Joyel [40 years], his wife, Gertrude Mora [23 years], Jacques [3 years] & Gertrude [4 months].⁴ Jacques departed this life on Thursday, 26 March 1716 in St-Francois-du-Lac, Yamaska County, Quebec, Canada, at age 75 years. He was buried there in the cemetery of St-Francois-du-Lac on Thursday, 26 March 1716.⁵
