James Humphrey

     James was born on Monday, 22 June 1711 in Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He was the son of James Humphrey and Margaret Torrey. James married Ann Torrey, daughter of Lieut. John Torrey and Mary Symmes, on 5 December 1734 in Weymouth. James and Ann had children: Ann [11/19/1735-6/24/1744], James [4/12/1737-8/20/1811][m. 12/31/1758 Betty Pratt], Margaret [2/08/1739-1/29/1832][m. Abner Pratt], Lucy 4/13/1742-6/01/1781][m. Lt. Col Asa White], Ann [7/06/1746-2/15/18251][m. 10/23/1777 David Blanchard] & Josiah [6/18/1748-5/07/1835].¹ James's wife, Ann, died on 17 December 1751 in Weymouth leaving him a widower. He married second Silence Whitmarsh. James departed this life on Wednesday, 2 May 1798 in Weymouth at age 86 years, 10 months and 10 days. He was buried there in North Weymouth Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: In Memory of the Honorble James Humphrey Esq. who Departed this Life May ye 2, 1798 in the 87th year of his Age.
