William was born in 1709 in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. William married Mehitable Wells on 21 January 1730 in the Town of Southold. William married 2nd Sarah Corey on 8 April 1773. William's wife, Sarah, died on 22 September 1776 in the Town of Southold leaving him a widower. William married 3rd Mary (?) after 22 September 1776. William made his will on 5 May 1782 at the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. He mentions his children: William & Jonathon, his wife Mary, his niece Mehitable Horton things given by brother Moses, Patience wife of William, daughters Mary Vail, Hannah Vail, Bethia Wells, Mehitable Corwin and deceased daughters Hannah & Phebe. The executors were: William & Jonathon. It was witness by Micah Horton & Elten Oberton. William departed this life on Friday, 26 September 1788 in the Town of Southold. He was buried there in the First Presbyterian Church burying ground in the village of Southold. The inscription on his tombstone reads: In Memory of Deceased William Horton who died 26 sept 1788 in the 80th year of his age.5 His will was probated on 9 October 1788.
