     Zachery was born before 6 June 1562 in Exeter, Devonshire, England. Zachary began at Corpus Christi College 23 December 1587. He later became the rector of St. Michael Carhayes, Cornwall.2 Zachery married Grace Battishill in 1602 in England.3 Zachery made his will in 1637 at the parish of St. Michael Carhays, Cornwall, England.4 Letters of Administration were granted for his estate on 28 January 1643 at Devonshire, England, to his relict Grace..3

  1. [S1379] Samuel Smith Travers, A collection of pedigrees of the family of Travers, page 28 - Zachrary Hooker became Rector of St. Michael Carhays, co. Cornwall, where he died circa. 1643. His will dated 2 July 1637, was proved at Exeter 28 Jan. 1643. He married Grace, daughter of John Batishil, of South Tawten, Devon, and had issue. Of the rest, Alice Hooker was the chosen wife of John Travers, to whom she married (probably at Exeter) on the 25th, July 1580.

  4. [S1364] Pedigree of Vowell family, alias Hooker      : ... compiled 1590-1600 with additions in a later hand, illustrated with coats of arms. Descent from Joseph Voell 'of Pembroke in South Wales' through five generations to John Vowell alias Hooker (1525-1601, Chamberlain of city of Exeter) who married as second wife Anastis Bridgman of Exeter, their son Zachary*, born 1562, married Grace Battishill of South Tawton. (Up to this point, pedigree is written in one hand, Zachary's nine children are entered in his own writing). Later additions, mostly in writing of Reverend John Pomeroy, show descent from Zachary's third son, Balsemus, of Thomazina Hooker, who married The Reverend John Pomeroy of St Ewe, the marriages of their daughters to William Carlyon of St Austell (Elizabeth), Edward Cregoe of Gerrans (Mary), and John James (Grace), and a further two generations. Endorsed (in Zachary Hooker's writing), 'Zacharie Hooker was born AD1562 June 6', with note of dates of times of birth of all his children, 1603-1620. *Zachary Hooker, born 1562, appointed to rectory of St Michael Carhays with St Dennis and St Stephen in Brannel, 28 October 1592. His signature appears among these who subscribed to the Articles of the Synod of London. In 1628 he compiled a terrier for Carhays (in Cornwall Record Office). He owned property in St Ewe and Creed and in Exeter and Withycombe in Devon. He died at Carhays, a slate tablet recording his burial was erected in the church, but according to Lake's Parochial History '...having been much damaged, (it) has been placed under the chancel floor'.His will, made 1637 was proved at Exeter 1643 (U.D.9 and U.D.15 in R.I.C.).
