John was born circa 1595 in Glastonbury, Somersetshire, England. John married Sarah (?) circa 1616 in England. John & his family came to America probably in 1634. John first settled in Weymouth, Massachusetts. By 1635, John had removed to Dorchester where in 1640, he was made a "freeman" there. John originally settled in the part of Weymouth known as "Old Spain". John, as well as his brother Thomas, had a confortable fortune in the New World. He settled in Dorchester where he was made freeman on 13 May 1640. Proable children: Thomas, Richard, Margaret [m. perhaps perhaps Nicholas Rockwood/Rockett], Daniel, Samuel, & Nathaniel. John departed this life before 1644 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

Andrew Roberts Lord, Holbrook and Allied Families, pages 8-9 - it is known that John Holbrook's fourth child was born there in 1627 [Weymouth]. and every reason to believe he was in Weymouth or New England three years earlier. ... He was in Dorchester, Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1635 and made freeman there in 1640. ... died probably before 1644, married Sarah in England, she died in Weymouth November 14, 1643.
