Captain Ebenezer Hickok

     Ebenezer was born in 1691 in Waterbury, New Haven County, Connecticut. He was the son of Sgt. Samuel Hickok & Hannah Upson. Ebenezer married Hester Curtis, daughter of Benjamin Curtis and Ester Judson, on 17 June 1747 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Ebenezer departed this life on Friday, 8 July 1774 in Bethel, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He was buried there in Congregational Church Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: Here Lies Buried the Body of Capt. Ebenezer Hickok who departed this Life July 8th AD 1774 in the 83d Year of his Age[.] He was for many Years a Deacon in the Church of Bethel a principal Pillar in that Church and Society and an Ornament to the Christians Religion." "The memory of the Righteous is blessed."¹
