     Samuel was born in 1647 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. Samuel married Mary Thompson on 20 May 1673 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, at the Old Congregational Church.2 Samuel's wife, Mary, died before 1691 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, leaving him a widower. Samuel married 2nd Patience Nichols in 1691 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.3 Joseph & Patience had children: Ephraim [circa 1691-1771][m. 10/05/1711 Phebe Curtis], Katherine [circa 1695- 2/02/1696], Stephen [circa 1697-1790][m. 7/21/1720 Mary DeForest], Benjamin [circa 1699-5/08/1765][m. 2/18/1725 Mary Nichols & 2nd Experience Dibble] & Nathaniel [circa 1702-1/07/1754][m. 12/12/1723 Mary Ufford]. Samuel made his will on 15 April 1734 at Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

. . . having lived to see my children disposed of in marriage, and given them portions, all remaining estate to wife Patience.3

Samuel departed this life on Tuesday, 24 August 1734 in Stratford at age 87 years. He was buried there in the Old Congregational Church Burying Ground. The inscription on her tombstone reads: Here lyes Buried ye Body of Mr. Samuel Hawley who departed this life Aug 24th A D 1734 in the 87th year of his age. His will was probated on 24 September 1734 at Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.
