  1. [S1708] Walter Monwey, The History of the Ancient Town and Borough of Newbury in the County of Berks, page 78 - . . . concludes that the largest portion of the three into which, within a generation, the Domesday fief of Ernulf de Hesding was divided , went to Walter de Salisbury, whose wife, the mother of Earl Patrick of Sarum, was Sibil de Hesding, though called Sibilla de Chaworth by genealogist.
The following corrected table shews the pedigree of the Salisbury and Perche families as connected with that of Hesding:
[The table shows Emmelina married to Ernulf de Hesding - their daughter, Sibil de Hesding married to Walter de Salisbury, deceased 1147, son of Edward de Salisbury deceased 1130.]
Note: This is contrary to many genealogies, as Sibil is listed as Sibil de Chaworth, daughter of Patrick de Chaworth & Matilda de Hesding, sister of the above Sibil. The generations, the known dates in the these generations and the fact, noted by Money, tha[t Ernulf's holdings in Newbury were divided into three parts. When noted a generation later they were in the hands of Chaworth [Matlda], Fitz-Alan [Avelina]. & Salisbury. The largest partition going to Salisbury. This indicates a third daughter which would be Sibil, a daugher of Ernulf, not of his daughter Matilda. Being the larest portion would indicate that Sibil was the oldest of the daughters. - KLM]
