Sir William Harcourt de Standon1

     Sir William was born circa 1175 in Bosworth, Leicestershire, England. Sir married Alice Noel de Ellenhall, daughter of Thomas Noel and Margery L'Estrange, circa 1200 in Staffordshire, England.2 William was a trusted servant of King John [Plantagenet]. For three yearshe held the role of Govenor of Corf Castle, a prison he held for the king. This is the castle where the Countess of Sommerset and Dorset were held and also where in January of 1214 the children of William de Braose were delivered. It is said that they were starved to death. As a reward for his great loyality to the kind, Sir JWilliam received many substancial gifts of lands. He was still a favorite of the court after Henry III had succeeded John. In 1218, William and several of the other high ranking barons went to Egypt in support of the king. William was still in Egypt om Pctpber pf 1220 but was back in England before June of 1222 when he and his wife succeeded to her mother's lands. He was dead bu April 6 of 1223. Sir departed this life circa 1223 in Ellenhall, Staffordshire, England.
