     Samuel was born on Tuesday, 9 April 1720 in the Town of Flushing, Queens County, Long Island, New York. Samuel married Rebecca Fowler, daughter of William Fowler and Mary (?), in 1741 in New York. Samuel and his family occupied 250 acres of land belonging to the Phillipse Manor as early as 1745. He an annual rent of three pounds until 1785 when he bought the land from the State of New York for 988 pounds. Phillipse has lost the land by forfiture due to his allegiance to the crown. The point of junction of the three towns of New Castle, North Castle & Mount Pleasant is on that property. Thomas and Mary Leggett also lived here at Phillipse Manor. They were Quakers. Samuel's wife, Rebecca, died in Phillipse Manor, Westchester County, New York, leaving him a widower. Samuel married 2nd Abigail Lane. She was the widow of Mr. Cheeseman.__. Samuel made his will in 1803 at Mount Pleasant, Westchester County, New York. He notes himself as a farmer. He mentions his wife. Samuel departed this life on Friday, 14 October 1808 in Mount Pleasant, Westchester County, New York. His will was probated on 7 November 1808.

He occupied land belonging to the Philipse Manor as early as 1745, paying £3 per year for 250 acres, which he purchased, in the name of his brother Caleb, of th%,Commissioners of the State of New York in 1785, for £988 N. Y. currency, it having been forfeited by Philipse on account of his allegiance to the crown. The point of junction of the towns of New Castle, North Castle, and Mount Pleasant is upon this land.
