George Griswold

     George was born in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, England. He was the son of Edward and Margaret Griswold. He was christened there on 19 May 1633 in St. Nicholas Church.¹ George married Mary Holcomb, daughter of Thomas Holcomb and Eliabeth (?), on 1 October 1655 in Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut.^2,3 George and Mary had children: Daniel [10/01/1656-12/31/1728] [m. 2/03/1680 Mindwell Bissell], Thomas [9/29/1658-9/18/1689] [m. 8/11/1681 Hester Drake], Edward [3/19/1661-5/31/1688] [m. 11/03/1681 Abigail Williams], Mary [9/28/1663-7/13/1739] [m. 1/22/1684 Joseph Cooley], George 12/03/1665-11/25/1746], John [9/17/1668-6/13/1738] [m. 11/22/1705 Abigail Gaylord], Benjamin [8/16/1671-1747] [m. 1/04/1693 Elizabeth Cook], Deborah [5/30/1674-1/19/1756] [m. 12/12/1695 Thomas Moore], Abigail [10/31/1676-5/07/1682] & Samuel [11/05/1681-6/01/1682]. George died intestate on Monday, 3 September 1674 in Windsor.^4,5 The inventory of George's estate was taken on Thursday, 2 October 1704 by Timothy Phelps, Joseph Griswold and Benajah Holcomb. They appraised the value of the estate to be £362 8s.⁶ On 9 November 1704, the widow, Mary, and all of the children, signed an agreement to distribute the estate as the father had indicated in an unsigned document.⁷ Letters of Administration of his estate were granted on 10 November 1704 to Daniel and George Griswold..⁷ His will was probated. On 2 July 1711, the court proved the closing of the estate by George and Daniel Griswold.
