     John was born circa 1619 in England. John married 2nd Sarah Busby, daughter of Nicholas Busby II and Bridget Cocke, after 11 December 1643 in Massachusetts. He was first married to Mary __.2 John made his will on 24 January 1697. John departed this life on Thursday, 25 July 1697 in Sudbury, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. His will was probated on 16 August 1697.

His second wife was Sarah, widow of captain Thomas Cakebread, daughter of Nicholas Busby, who in his will names John Grout his son and Sarah Grout he calls his youngest daughter. By her his children were John, Sarah, who married John Loker jr. and died 1702; Joseph, b. 24 July 1649; Abigail, 14 October 1655; who married 1678, Joseph Curtis; Jonathan, 1 August 1658; Elizabeth m. Samuel Allen, bore him 5 children and after married John Livermore; Mary, 1 August 1661, married 19 September 1688, Thomas Knapp; and Susanna 1664, who married 1692, John Woodward.
