Louis was born in Paris, France. A contract for the marriage of Louis Gillet de Laplante & Judith Riguad was signed on 6 February 1686 at St-Jean-de-Angely, Charente, Poitou-Charentes, France. In the contract it was noted that Louis was a bourgeois and native of Paris, but presently residing in St-Jean-d'Angely, son of the deceased Jean Gillet & Anne Goujon and Judith Rigaud, originally from and dwelling in the city of St-Jean-d'Angely, widow of Jean de Laplanche de Couille, master surgeon, daughter of the deceased Elie Rigaud, teacher of youth & Suzanne Dugast. The contract was drawn up by a Mr. Hardy. Louis married Judith Riguad on 12 February 1686 in St-Jean-de-Angely, Charente, Poitou-Charentes, France.1 Louis and Judith later returned to Quebec, as on 8 May 1688, a contract of sale of a house in Montreal was drawn up by the nortary Adhemar. On 25 August 1690, Judith received, by sacramental rite, the Scapular of Mont-Carmel. To recieve this, she would have to have been in very good standing in the church.2
