Elizabeth Melvina Folwell

     Elizabeth Melvina was born in 1803 in Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of William Watts Folwell and jane Dungan. Elizabeth Melvina married William Torrey, son of Captain William Torrey and Mehitable Baldwin, circa 1821. Williiam and Eliza had a daughter Caroline Martha [12/31/1822] m. 1840 Sephen Allen Bowen. 5 October 1850, Elizabeth and her husband, William, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Romulus, Seneca County, New York. Enumerated in this household were William Torrey [57 New York], Elizabeth [47 Pennsylvania], Joel Coryell [14 New York], William W. Folwell [82 Pennsylvania], Jane Folwell [74 Pennsylvania] & Stephen White [20 Ireland]. William is a farmer.¹ Elizabeth's husband, William, died on 7 June 1852 in Romulus leaving her a widow. Elizabeth departed this life on Friday, 15 May 1896 in Romulus at age 93 years. Death notice: Mrs. Eliza Torrey, relict of the late William Torrey, died May 16^th and her funeral was attended the 18 instant. She was nearly 93 years of age, was born in Pennsylvania in 1803, and came here with her parents in 1807. In later years she lived with the family of her brother, Dr. N. W. Folwell. She was buried there in Kendaia Cemetery.²
