Mary (?)
F, d. before 31 July 1681
Mary was born in England. Mary married John Sweete, son of Robert Swete, circa 1620 in Modbury, Devonshire, England, at the Trayne Manor. She and John were blessed with 4 known children. Mary's husband, John, died in 1637 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island, leaving her a widow. Mary was given a grant after her husband's death in 1637. Shortly after she returned to Salem where she received another grant of land still in that same year. Mary married 2nd Ezekiel Holliman in 1638 at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, or in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1639, a letter written by the minister Rev. Hugh Peters of Salem to the church in Dorchester makes reference to Mary Holliman and several others of the community as having been "greatly censured" because they had "Wholly refused to hear the church" and denying it to be the one true church. Sometime later, Ezekiel & his family removed to Warwick, Rhode Island, where he became paster of the First Baptist Church. Here they were neighbors of George Baldwin and Peter Busecut. Ezekiel witnessed conveyances of land made by George Baldwin while he was living in Warwick.1,2 Mary made her will in June 1681. She leaves to her son-in-law, John Gereardy & daughter, Renewed, his wife, both formerly of Warwick and now of Prudence Island, all interest in her house, lot, meadow & upland in Warwick.3 Mary departed this life on or before 31 July 1681 at Warwick, Kent County, Rhode Island. Her will was probated on 31 July 1681.
