     William was born circa 1550 in the parish of St. James, South Elham, County Suffolk, England. He went with his father to Geneva, Switzerland in 1553 to escape the religious persecutions of Queen Mary.3 William married Anna Austye, daughter of Walter Austye, circa 1575 in England. William married 2nd Alice (?) in England. William made his will on 25 November 1616 at Ditchingham, County Suffolk, England.

He mentions now wife, Alice. He leaves to the poor of Ditchingham. He mentions his son, John, leaving him lands in St. James, South Elmham. He mentions grandchildren: Matthias, John & Mary Candler. He also mentions grandchildren: John, Anne, Martha, Nathaniel & Eleazer, all not yet 21 years. He mentions his daughter, Anne Candler. He left his son, John, lands in Metfield and to pay his brothers: Nathaniel & Eleaser and his sister, Hester six score pounds. His son, John is executor.4,5,6

William departed this life in Ditchingham. His will was probated on 17 May 1623.
