Frederick was born in 1808 in Arfelt, Krize, Whittenstiny, Westphalia, Prussia. Frederick married Barbara Price on 27 April 1837 in Crawford County, Ohio.1 When Frederick first came to Crawford County, Ohio at around the age of 25, he first found work as a laborer helping to dig a huge ditch became known as the Hahn Ditch. The project was designed to drain the lowlands to allow the area to be farmed. With his earnings from this work, he purchased a team of horses and began a very successful business of transporting merchandise between Sandusky and Bucyrus. With the coming of the railroads, after several years, he then went into business with a William Hahn making bricks. The earliest brick makers in the area. After 4 years, Frederick then became a cattle dealer and butcher. He continued this trade until he purchased the Western Hotel in about 1852. He remained its proprietor until his death. While owning the hotel he made substantial improvements increasing the value of the property to $7,000. Enumerated in this household were Fredrick Feiring [42 Germany], his wife: Barbara [34 Germany], children: Mary Ann [12 Ohio], Caroline [10 Ohio], Fredrick [7 Ohio], Jane [5 Ohio], Henry [3 Ohio], & Charles [1 Ohio]. Frederick was a Tanner.5 25 June 1860, Frederick and his wife, Barbara, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Bucyrus at the Western Hotel. Enumerated in this household were Fredrick Feiring [52 Bavaria], his wife: Barbara [46 Baden], children: Fredrick [17 Ohio][clerk], Henry [12 Ohio], Charles [10 Ohio], Emma [6 Ohio], Martha [4 Ohio] & Ida [1 Ohio]. Fred is an hotel Keeper.6 Frederick departed this life on Sunday, 16 September 1866 in Bucyrus at his residence, the Western Hotel at age 58 years. He was buried there in Oakwood Cemetery.7
