Anne Evans
F, b. 1697, d. before 3 February 1768
Anne was born in 1697 in Prince George's County, Maryland. She was the daughter of Richard Evans and Elizabeth Hall.1 Anne married Robert Pottenger, son of John Pottenger and Mary Mill, on 2 December 1716 in Queen Anne's Parish, Prince George County, Maryland, at St. Barnabas Church. Robert and Anne had children: Mary [m. a Mr. Smith & 2nd. Archibald Congrove], Elizabeth [m. 12/18/1735 John Bowie & 2nd 1755 Thomas Cramphin], John, Robert [m. Rachel Wickam], Richard, Ann [m. 1765 James Beall], Rachel [m. 1751 William Bowie & 2nd 1765 Zadok Magruder], Sarah & Eleanor [Thomas Macgill]. The order of birth of these children is unknown. Anne's husband, Robert, died before 5 June 1738 in Queen Anne's Parish, leaving her a widow. Anne made her will on 15 May 1767 at Queen Anne's Parish. In her will she mentions her children: Elizabeth Camphin, Anne Beall wife of James Beall, Rachel Magruder wife of Zadoc Magruder, Eleanor MacGill wife of Thomas MacGill and Mary Congrove. Also, she names her grandchildren: Robert Pottenger, son of Robert; Allen and John Bowie; Robert Camphin; Anne and Rachel Pottenger, children of Robert; Basil Cramphin, Richard Pottenger Cramphin, sons of Elizabeth; Elizabeth and Sarah Smith daughters of Mary. She also mentions her siblings Samuel Evans and Priscilia MacClain. She bequeaths 25 pounds to build a wall of brick or stone around the graveyard on the plantation where I live. She named her executor as Thomas MacGill. Witnesses:John Kingsbury & Thomas Crampton Jr. Anne departed this life in Queen Anne's Parish. Her will was probated on 3 February 1768.
