Joan de Eyton

FatherJohn de Eyton of Wildmoors b. c 1293
Joan de was born circa 1316 in Eyton, Shropshire, England. Joan de married Sir Henry de Cresswell circa 1333 in Shropshire, England. Joan's husband, an unknown person , died in 1335 in Shropshire, England, leaving her a widow. She became the owner of this manor which is near the river Clune; in a very violent way. Joan de married 2nd Sir Adam de Peshale II, son of Adam de Peshale I and Alice de Swynnerton de Suggenhulle, circa 1336 in Shropshire, England.1 Joan's husband, Adam, died on 8 January 1346 in Caynton, Shropshire, England, leaving her a widow. In the 34th year of Edward III [1361], Joan, along with her husband, John de Legh, co-heiress, sued her mother, Joan, widow of Adam Peshale for land at Cresswell Manor. Her mother replied that Sir Henry's bequest was for a term not yet expired and that she held it in dower & by assignment of Sir Richard de Peshale to whom the revision belonged & that she cannot answer without Sir Richard. It appears in later records, pertaing elsewhere, that the Peshale's retained the Manor of Cresswell.
She was involved in a suit against Richard Duddeleye & his wife, Isabell, over the land at Humeleys which she claimed was part of her dower rights.

  1. [S506] Note: It must be noted that there is no evidence to indicate which children of Adam II are also children of Joan de Eyton, nor is there any evidence of a prior marriage. But from what has been seen in records after the death of Adam II, his sons, Richard and John, could not be issue of Joan. Because of the the dates of death of Adam III and Isobella, it is highly probable that they at least these two are her children. Hopefully in time, further evidence will come to light which will definitively indicate which children are of Joan. - KLM.
