     Robert was born circa 1620 in Normandy, France. Robert married Mary Bassett, daughter of John Bassett and Margery (?), circa 1641 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Before 1641, Robert resided in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. He resided in New Haven before 4 January 1643. The last entry recorded in "Records of New Haven" in which Robert is mentioned is dated 2 October 1649, where it states that he "grewe weary" of working on anothers farm. Possibly because in August of the same year, he had purchased property of his own. The first appearance of Robert in this same record is 4 January 1643, where he and many others were fined 1 shilling "for late coming to trayne". The training was for sentry duty and possibly militia duty as well. In these records Robert's names is spelled "Emery". Robert departed this life in 1655 in Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

Pelletreau, Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Family History of New York, page 320 - … that it was of French Huguenot orgin, and tradition reports that they came from Normandyk, the original form of the name being d’Embree. ... they were probably among the large number of families who fled from France to Holland to escape persecution, and from thence came to America with the Dutch. One of the earliest mentions of the name is in the will of Nicholas Parcell or Pearsall, dated March 10, 1689/90. In this, he leaves a legacy “to Robert Embree, son of my daughter Sarah Embree.” She was probably the wife of John Embree, whose name appears at an earlier date. About the same time appears the name of Moses Embree [probably a brother of John] and these two seem to be the progenitors of the race. Robert Embree was probably the father of John who married Sarah, daughter of Francis Doughty. She was born 1703.
