Jeanne Durand

     Jeanne was born on Wednesday, 8 July 1654 in Quimper, Finistere, Brittany, France. She was christened on the same day there in the chapel of St-Esprit, St-Corentin Cathedral.^1,2 In May 1663, Jeanne, with her family, left their home in France aboard the ship, "Le Phoenix de Flessingue", under the command of Guillaume Hurtini, departing from La Rochelle..³ Due to the death of her father, she and her mother and sister were made "Filles de Roi". They arrived at Quebec the 30th of June. Jeanne married Louis Begin on 15 October 1668 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.⁴ Louis & Jeanne had children: Marie-Anne [8/02/1669-10/03/1687][m. 5/07/1685 Louis Guay], Marie-Marguerite [6/23/1672-12/16/1700][m. 11/07/1695 Eustache Couture dit Bellerive], Marie Therese [9/27/1674-10/04/1674], Elisabeth [11/05/1675-12/21/1695][m. 7/26/1693 Etienne Rochon], Louis [10/14/1678], Jacques [2/14/1682-2/18/1682], child [2/27-1683-2/27/1683], Jean-Baptiste [1686-11/06/1730 [m. 1/23/1714 Louise Carie], Susanne [1689][m. 5/02/1709 Laurent Poire], Etienne [5/12/1691-12/16/1759][m. 5/27/1722 Marie-Genevieve Rochon], & Jacques [5/29/1696-10/19/1756][m. 6/15/1722 Marie Genevieve Rochon].⁵ 1681, Jeanne and her husband, Louis, were listed on the Canadian Census in Comte-de-Levis, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Louis Begin [44 years], Jeanne Durand [29 years], Marie-Anne [12 years], Marguerite [9 years], Elisabeth [6 years] & Louis [3 years].⁶ Jeanne's husband, Louis, died on 25 December 1708 in Pointe-de-Levy, Lauzon leaving her a widow. Jeanne departed this life on Monday, 27 July 1722 in Levis at age 68 years and 19 days. She was buried there in the cemetery of St-Joseph on Tuesday, 28 July 1722.⁷
