John Dunning

M, b. 2 June 1812, d. 8 March 1900
     John was born on Tuesday, 2 June 1812 in Byron, Genesee County, New York. He was the son of Jacob Dunning and Martha Taylor. John married Mehitable Howell, daughter of Parshall Howell II and Elizabeth Horton, on 15 March 1847 in Dexter Township, Washtenaw County, Michigan. They ran the John Drake merchantile located in the village of Unadilla and resided at the store. John & Mehitable children: Flora [5/00/1849-] [m. Albert H, Watson] & a child [d.y.]. 7 August 1850, John and his wife, Mehitable, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were John Dunning [37 New York][merchant], his wife: Hetty [24 New Jersey], daughter: Flora [1 Michigan], brother: Chandler Dunning [28 New York][clerk], and Rasnelia Finny [13 __].1 8 June 1860, John and Mehitable was listed on the U.S. Federal Census at Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were Chandler Dunning [34 New York clerk], his brother: John Dunning [47 New York merchant], John's wife: Hetty [35 New Jersey], & Flora A. [11 Michigan].2 John's wife, Mehitable, died on 12 August 1866 in Unadilla Township leaving him a widower.3 11 August 1870, John was listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Unadilla Township, Livingston County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were John Dunning [58 New York], daughter: Flora [21 Michigan], & his brother: Chandler [40 New York].4 On 20 November 1870, he married second Susan Doty [7/12/1827-2/17/1882] [after her death, her body was taken back to Bradford County, Pennsylvania an buried with her parents in Doty Hill Cemetery], the daughter of Joseph Doty and Mehitable Horton. [NMehitable Horton Doty was sister of Elizabeth Horton Howell, mother of John's first wife Mehitable Howell - Af]. John departed this life on Thursday, 8 March 1900 in Unadilla Township at age 87 years, 9 months and 6 days. He was buried there in the Baseline Cemetery.
