Daniel Downs

     Daniel was born on Saturday, 12 October 1737 in Aquabogue in the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Daniel married Desire Parshall on 18 January 1755 in the Town of Southold. Daniel and Desire had children: Daniel [1756-4/05/1839] [m. 1775 Abigai. Tuthill and 2nd 1808 Nancy Tuthill], Desire [1757-1/03/1832] [m. Thomas Rogers], Joannah [1759-5/25/1823] [m. 1777 Obadiah Wells], Nicolls, Parshall, John, Ira, & Huldah [2/17/1777-9/21/1843] [m. 1796 Jonathan Baker]. Daniel made his will on 12 April 1782 at Moriches, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. In his will, all of his property was to be divided equally among four of his five sons (Nicolls, Parshall, John, and Ira, and not Daniel.) Daniel departed this life on Tuesday, 16 April 1782 in Moriches at age 44 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was buried there in Hawkins-Downs Cemetery. The inscription on his tombstone reads: In Memory/of/Daniel Downs/who died April 16, 1782/Aged 45 years 6 months/and 4 days.¹
