Walter Deane

M, b. before 13 May 1612
     Walter was born in Chard, Somersetshire, England. He was the son of William Deane of Chard & grandson of Walter, great grandson of John. He was christened there on 13 May 1612 in Chard.1 Walter married Eleanor Strong, daughter of John Strong and Eleanor Deane, circa 1637 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.2 On 22 April, Walter Deane and six servants; Elizabeth Poole, two friends and 13 servants; Henry Cogan, his wife, seven men and two maids and other passengers on the “Speedwell” . John Driver, Master, from Weymouth. Walter and Eleanor had children: Mary [2/24/1641-3/291691] [m. 1661 Shafrack Wilbore], James [9/__/1648-5/25/1725] [m. Sarah Tisdale], Ezra [10/14/1550-7/01/1727] [m. 1676 Bethia Edson], Joseph [ca 1651-1/10/1729], Benjamin [1652-1/10/1728] [m. 1680 Sarah Williams], & a child, a daughter married to Bartholomew Tipping.3 On 4 December 1638, Walter, his brother, John and John Strong were made freeman of Plymouth Colony.4 On 20 August 1693, Walter and Eleanor sign a deed to Isaack Dean which is the last recorded date showing them still living.
