Denise Damanee

     Denise was born in 1641 in Paris, Ile-de-France, France, at St-Jean-en-Greve. In the spring of 1665, Denise left her home in France aboard the ship, "St-Jean-Baptiste de Dieppe", under the command of Captain Francois Fillye, as one of the 90 "Filles du Roi". Thirty of these young ladies had already commtted to a marriage contract. They arrived at Quebec on the 18th of June.. A contract for the marriage of Rene Aure dit Grandmont & Denise Damanee was signed on 26 October 1665. It was drawn up by notary, Mr. Latouche. It noted he was originally from d'Axay-le-Rideau, Providence-de-Tours and his parents as Jacques Houray & Marguerite Casillion. It noted she originated from St-Jean-en-Greve, Paris and her parents as Michel Damesi & Catherine Taureau.1 1666, Denise and her husband, Rene, were listed on the Canadian Census in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Rene Houray [36 years] & Denise Damance [25 years].2 1667, Denise and her husband, Rene, were listed on the Canadian Census in Comte-de-Champlain, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Rene Haure [35 years] & Denise Esmery [25 years].3 1681, Denise and her husband, Rene, were listed on the Canadian Census in Champlain. Enumerated in this household were Rene Oure [50 years], Denise Damanee [50 years], Rene [14 years], Denise [8 years], Catherine [6 years], Jean [4 years] & Joseph [1 year].4 Denise departed this life circa 22 September 1704 in Champlain. She was buried there in the churchyard of la Visitation on Monday, 22 September 1704.5
