In 1655, he had lands at Southold, L. L, and also lands and a meadow at Aquebogue. Bence the above proposed date of his birth. He must therefore have been born very soon after his father's arrival at Ipswich, Mass., if born in America. That the above date of death, 1692, belongs to this Theophilus, is probable, as he had also a son Theophilus, but only one such name occurs on census list in 1698, whereas if the father were yet living, there would have been two. In 1660, he was engaged in a suit with Henry Case. In 1683, he was rated at £84. (Doc. Hit. N. Y. ii. 310.) In 1658, a Theophilus Corwin and Mary are witnesses in a deed of Tustin to Franklin. In 1686, he had 4 males and 3 females in his family, and in same year, sells land to A. Whittier. The above names of children, who evidently belong to the third generation, (as their names are enumerated in the census lists of the Documentary History of New-York for 1698) probably all belong to this Theophilus, as the children of his only brother, John, are mentioned in the will of the latter. (See John, No. 1.) These names are also scattered in the said census list, indicating thereby that the family was broken up, the father being deceased. On the other hand, the well-known names of the children of his brother -John, who was yet living in 1698, are found together. (Doc. Hist., N. Y. i. 450-455.).
