George was born in Tiverton, Devonshire, England. He was christened there on 18 April 1581 in St. Peter's Church.1 George married by license Isabel Roberts on 6 May 1611 in Tiverton.1 George and Isabel had children: Mary [1612][m. Edward Woodward], Francis [1614], George [1616], John [chr. 6/07/1618-7/07/1624], James [chr. 6/28/1620-2/23/1628], Joseph [9/29/1622-1/17/1657][m. Sarah], Benjamin [12/21/1623-9/01/1628], Martha [chr. 3/04/1625][m. William Carey], John [4/15/1627-11/301654], Sarah [chr. 4/24/1629][m. 1/15/1649 William Withers], Isabell [chr. 11/15/1630][m. Richard Stephenson] & Mary [chr. 2/17/1631-2/20/1631].2 George made his will on 3 August 1655.
George Cornish, Citizen and haberdasher of London. He is to be buried in the parish church of St. Mary Magdalen in Milk Street in London as near as possible to his children. He divided his estate into three equal portions, one full portion to his wife. For the other 2 portions he bequeathed 100 pounds to his wife & sons Francis and Joseph. To daughters Sarah, wife of William Withers and Isabell Stephenson 50 pounds. To grandchildren Isabell and Mary, daughters of his son Joseph 50 pounds. His cousin, Jane Puddington is forgiven the debt she owes. Other bequests are made to relatives, friends and the poor. Special mention was made of the Company of Haberdashers. Other bequeaths were made to his immediate family as well.3
George departed this life in London. He was buried there in St. Mary Magdalen Churchyard, Milk Street on Tuesday, 12 October 1655.1 His will was probated on 24 October 1655.
