John Cornelius

     John was born on Tuesday, 2 March 1802 in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Joshua Cornelius and Mary Elizabeth Bailey. John married Elizabeth Ross, daughter of William Ross, circa 1825 in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, the family of John Cornelius [20001:1001].¹ The 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, the family of John Cornelius [012001:210001].² 8 August 1850, John and his wife, Elizabeth, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Henderson Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. Enumerated in this household were John Cornelius [48 Pennsylvania], his wife: Elizabeth [40 Pennsylvania], children: John [21 Pennsylvania], Matheu [20 Pennsylvania], James [18 Pennsylvania], Mary [15 Pennsylvania], Delilah [13 Pennsylvania], Eliza [11 Pennsylvania], Martha [8 Pennsylvania], David [6 Pennsylvania], Catherine [5 Pennsylvania], Taylor [3 Pennsylvania].³ 8 August 1870, John and Elizabeth listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. Enumerated in this household were John Cornelius [68 Pennsylvania], Elizabeth [61 Pennsylvania], John [11 Pennsylvania].⁴ John departed this life on Wednesday, 6 October 1880 in Wayne Township at age 78 years, 7 months and 4 days. He was buried there in Wayne Cemetery.
