John was born circa 20 August 1625 in Boxford, County Suffolk, England. On 20 August 1625, he was christened in Boxford, County Suffolk, England. He moved with his father to Wethersfield, Stamford & then to Hempstead. In 1648, he was granted land in Hempstead. He eventually owned 150 acres of land there. He followed his father, in 1652, to settle in Newtown, while retaining his lands at Hempstead. There at Newtown, he began improvement of a farm and built & oppeted a gristmill on Flushing creek. This mill was owned & operated by his descendants for several generations. He probably married there at Newtown but her name is not known.
