     William de was born on Thursday, 18 May 1228 in Herefordshire, England. He was of Petersfield, Mapledurham & Sunworth, Hampshire, England and Walsingham, Wells & Warham, County Norfolk, England. He was knighted in November of 1247; his brother Richard sponsored a great tournament at Northampton in honor of the occassion. In 1248, he and his brother, Richard, went on a pilgrimage overseas to St Edmund at Pontigny, Champagne. Over the next 10 years William was granted several privileges in line with his titles mentioned above. In May of 1258 William with his brother, Richard, while at breakfast with Prince Edward at the palace of Winchester, were both poisoned by Walter de Scotenay. William departed this life before 23 July 1258. At Retherford from the effects of the poisoning in May. His brother, Richard survived the ordeal. He was buried at County Sussex, England, in Durford Abbey. He never married nor had any known issue.
