Jean Chenier

     Jean was born circa 1625 in Saintonge, Charente-Maritime, Poitou-Charentes, France. He was the son of Jean Chenier & Marguerite Berard. Jean married Jacqueline Sedilot, daughter of Louis Sedilot and Marie Grimoult, on 23 October 1651 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.¹ Jean & Jacqueline had children: Francois [10/10/1655-10/17/1708], Adrien [8/21/1657-12/07/1657], Jean [11/17/1658-6/16/1729][m 2/08/1683 Marie Genevieve Ferre & 2nd 2/21/1689 Jeanne Arrivee], Marie [11/05/1660-3/06/1746][m. 11/12/1674 Jean Baptiste Bricault dit la Marche], Marguerite-Angelique [8/27/1662-11/29/1728], Francois-Joseph [8/25/1664] & Anne [2/17/1666--7/09/1691][m. 12/01/1688 Jean-Baptiste Tellier dit Lafortune].² 1666, Jean and Jacqueline were listed on the Canadian Census. Enumerated in this household were Jean Chenier [60 years-carpenter], Marie Grusseau [40 years], Jean [20 years], Louis [16 years] & Marie [7 years].⁶ Jean departed this life in Neuville. He was buried there in the churchyard of St-Francois-de-Sales on Tuesday, 26 May 1699.⁷
