Thomas Cheney

M, b. 1 March 1669/70, d. before 13 June 1738
     Thomas was born on Saturday, 1 March 1669/70 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was the son of Richard Cheney and Eleanor Pindell. Thomas married Sarah Westall, daughter of George Westall II and Sarah Wade, on 19 August 1697 in South River at All Hallow's Parish.1 Thomas and Sarah had children: Sarah [10/04/1698-<4/01/1701], Elizabeth [10/10/1700][m. 4/22/1716 Thomas Joice], Thomas [10/10/1700 Ruth [3/16/1702][m. 6/23/1719 Benjamin Cheney], Moses [3/20/1705], Eleanor [10/18/1711-1738][m. circa 1733 Anthony Enloes], Sarah [10/18/1711-<6/15/1774][m. 5/17/1733 John Hatton & 2nd. 8/07/1750 John Wilshire] & Rachel [1713]. Thomas's wife, Sarah, died before 14 September 1713 in South River, leaving him a widower. Thomas remarried on 7 June 1716 to Susannah Hopper. Thomas made his will on 24 August 1737.

Will of Thomas Cheney, Planter – He bequeaths to his daughters Elizabeth Joyce, Ruth Cheney, Elinor Inloe, Sarah Hatton and Rachell Cheney one shilling each. To son Thomas and heirs 50 acres dwelling plantation being part of “Cheney’s Resolution” said son dying without issue to pass to son Richard and heirs. To son Lewis and heirs other plantation, being part of same tract said son dying without issue to pass to daughter Susannah and heirs. Should aforesaid sons Thomas, Lewis and Richard die without issue or before they are of age, lands to pass to daughter Susannah and heirs. To wife Susannah. Executrix, personalty to divide residue of estate with following children, viz: Thomas, Lewis, Susannah, Richard, and Rebecca. Witnesses: John Jacobs, John Hopper, Mary Jacobs.

Thomas departed this life in Anne Arundel County. His will was probated on 13 June 1738.
