Marie Chedville

     Marie was born in St-Denis-les-Rebais, Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de -France, France. She is the daughter of Jean Chedville and Marguerite Jesiovun. She was christened there on 5 June 1631 in St-Denis Church.¹ She immigrated to Quebec as a "Filles a Marier". She arrived there circa 1650.² Marie married Andre DuMay, son of Jean DuMay and Barbe Maugis, on 7 January 1654 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.³ Andre & Marie had children: Catherine [10/22/1654-11/20/1654], Marie [10/28/1655-4/24/1687] [m. 8/14/1668 Nicolas Nevaux & 2nd. 1/26/1672 Jean LeRoy], Nicolas [8/06/1657] [m. 10/23/1679 Marie Barbe Jette], Andre [10/24/1659-1/17/1707][m. 9/02/1686 Anne Jette], Jean-Baptiste [8/31/1661-10/25/1690] [m. 2/25/1686 Cunegonde Masta], Michel [10/03/1663-10/15/1687] [m. 11/25/1685 Marie Eliesabeth Isabelle Jette], Barbe [8/08/1665-9/07/1699] [m. 11/04/1680 Jacques Coiteux], Charles [6/13/1667-1/21/1749][m. 2/17/1689 Marie Elisabeth Isabelle Papin, 2nd 10/09/1707 Catherine Jette & 3rd 4/23/1719 Madeleine Cauchon-Blery], Marie Anne [1668-1/20/1741][m. 10/22/1686 Jean Baptiste Boulerice and 2nd. 11/01/1712 Charles Varry], Robert [1/11/1671-5/22/1741][m. 4/26/1694 Marie Madeleine Jette], Paul [1/25/1673-2/17/1690] & Marie Martine [9/24/1695-6/09/1755] [m. 9/16/1697 Paul Jette].⁴ 1666, Marie and her husband, Andre, were listed on the Canadian Census in Montreal. Enumerated in this household were Andre Dumay [35 years], Marie Chefdeville [30 years], Marie [10 years], Nicolas [9 years], Andre [5 years], Jean Baptiste [3 years], Michel [1 year] & Barbe [1 month].⁵ 1681, Marie and her husband, Andre, were listed on the Canadian Census. Enumerated in this household were Andre Dumets [50 years], Marie Chedeville [45 years], Andre [22 years], Michel [18 years], Charles [14 years], Marie [12 years], Robert [10 years], Paul [8 years] & Martine [6 years].⁶ Marie departed this life in Montreal. She was buried there in the cemetery of Notre Dame on Friday, 23 November 1708.⁷
