John was born in 1628 in Wherwell, Hampshire, England. John married Hannah (?) circa 1655 in Huntington, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. John made his will on 10 November 1694 at Jamaica, Queens County, Long Island, New York.
John Carpenter, Sr., of Jamaica, 10 Nov., 1694. “Being now ancient & crazy in body but sound of mind.” Disposes of many tracts of land. To oldest son, John, ten acres east of the town beyond John Hansen's lot, 13 acres pf upland, etc. Sons Hope, Samuel & William have already had portions. Land to third son Samuel. Furinture to dau., Ruth Ludlam, and to gtaanddaughters, Hannah & Abigail Rodes. Tem acres to grandson, Solomon Carpenter, if he remains with my wife till he is of age. To son William, falf the homestead. Son John exr.. Overseers: Joseph & Nehemiah Smith. Wits: Andrew Alexander, Samuel Higeby, & Samuel Smith.1
