Francoise Brunet

Francoise was born in 1635 in Quimper, Finistere, Brittany, France.1 Francoise married Martin Durand, son of Nicolas Durand and Anne Lanouenan, circa 1653 in Quimper, Finistere, Brittany, France. Francoise's husband, Martin, died while the family was in route to Quebec, leaving her a widow. In May 1663, Francoise, with her family, left their home in France aboard the ship, "Le Phoenix de Flessingue", under the command of Guillaume Hurtini, departing from La Rochelle..2,3 Due to her husband's death, she and her daughters were made "Filles de Roi". They arrived at Quebec the 30th of June. Francoise married 2nd Theodore Sureau on 8 November 1663 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at the Basilica of Notre Dame.4 1667, Francoise and her husband, Theodore, were listed on the Canadian Census in Comte-de-Levis, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Theodore Sureau [40 years], Francoise Brunette [32 years], Jeanne Durand [12 years], Francoise Durand [10 years], Genevieve Sureau [2 years].5 Francoise departed this life on Friday, 20 July 1668 in ville de Quebec, Quebec, Canada, at age 33 years. She was buried there in the Notre Dame Cemetery on Saturday, 21 July 1668.6
