Robert de Bruce VI

     Robert de was born in 1210 in Guisborough, Yorkshire, England. Robert married Isabella de Clare, daughter of Sir Gilbert de Clare 4th Earl of Hertford and Isabel Marshall, on 12 May 1240. Robert married 2nd Christina de Ireby on 3 May 1275 in Hoddam, in the diocese of Glasglow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Christina was first married to Thomas de Lascelles Knt. (he died before October of 1260) and Adam de Gesemuth, Knt, of Cramlington, Derbyshire (died between 27 July 1270 and 23 April 1274). Durng the War of the Barons, Robert sided with Henry III and supported him in battle. Robert spent much of his adult life in attempting to affirm his right to the Scottish throne and to have himself proclaimed as the King of Scotland. After a decsion rendered by Henry III of England giving the crown to John de Balliol, Robert gave up his efforts on his own behalf, but his final act in the manner was to resign his rights to his son Robert, Earl of Carrick. Robert departed this life on Tuesday, 31 May 1295 in Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, at Lochmaben Castle. He was buried at Guisborough, Yorkshire, England, in Guisborough Priory.¹
