     Grissell was born before 6 January 1636/37 in Datchet, Buckinghamshire, England. On 6 January 1636/37, she was christened in Clerkenwell, London, County Middlesex, England, at St. James Church.1 In 1651, Grissell immigrated to New England with hersister, Ann, & Ann's new husband, William Coddington. It was William who introduced her to Nathaniel Sylvester. Grissell married Nathaniel Sylvester in 1653 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island. The family lived on Shelter Island. Nathaniel was in the family merchantile trade. Grissell's husband, Nathaniel, died before 2 October 1680 in Shelter Island, New York, leaving her a widow.
