Rene Blanchet

Rene was born in 1639 in Fontaine, Bishopric of La Rochelle, Poitou-Charentes, France. Before immigrating, on 9 May 1662, at the age of 23 years, he signed a contract to work in Quebec as a miller for 3 threes. His conpensation was 100livres per year and his return to France. On 1 May 1664, he was confirmed into the Catholic Chruch at Cap-de-la-Madeleine. He was confirmed with Robert and Jean Rivard and 10 other individuals.1 1666, Rene was listed on the Census working for the Jesuits at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. Enumerated in this household were Rene Blanchet [28 years], a miller & others.2 A contract for the marriage of Rene and Marie Sedilot was signed on 21 September 1670. It was drawn up by their notary, Mr. Cusson. It noted Rene as being from Fontainee, the bisopric of La Rochelle, Poitou. It also noted Marie as the widow of Julien Trottier. Rene departed this life between 1678 and 1681 in Trois-Rivieres. This was between his son Pierre's birth and the 1681 census.
