Sir Robert Bell

     Sir Robert was born in England. Sir married Dorothy Beaupre, daughter of Edmund Beaupre and Katharin Bedingfeld, on 15 November 1559 in England. He was Knight, Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer. Sir Robert Bell was elected Speaker of the House of Commons, May 10, 1572, 14th Elizabeth, serving until 1576, when he was appointed Chief Baron of the Exchequer, in succession to Sir Edward Saunders. Dorothy became the heir of the Beaupre estate. Sir departed this life in 1577 in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. His death was caused by jail fever (typhus) while he was presiding at the famous Black Assize in Oxford, during the trial of a bookseller for slander of Queen Elizabeth, who was sentenced to have both ears cropped.
