     Thomas was born on Saturday, 10 July 1784 in Hardyston, Sandyston Township, Sussex County, New Jersey. Thomas married Rachel Tuttle in 1812 in New Jersey. Thomas was an elder in the North Church in Hardyston. The family were church members previous to the separation of Sparta & the North Church in 1819. Their home was on the Demarest farm, east of Tuttle's Corner in Lafayette Township. In October of 1831, Thomas Beardslee & his family, his nephew, John Wheeler Beardslee & his family, & Marcus Riker moved to this locality & built a shanty on his nephew, John Wheeler Beardslee's land - section 35 near the Sashabaw Creek which they all occupied when finished. The Beardslees' were natives of Sussex County, New Jersey & Riker's of Chemung County, New York. Thomas Beardslee located in the northern part of section 26 where he built an eighteen foot square house. This building was the best in the township at the time & was first to be considered a house.2 Thomas and Rachel had children: James [1814-], Mary Elizabeth [6/--/1816-1902][m. 9/16/1838 Jeffrey W. Beardslee], Cornelius [1818-1831], Ebenezer T, [1820-1904][m. 1851 Abigail Sutton], Susan Cornelia [9/__/1822-] [m. 10/28/1843 William Simerson], Charles [7/__1824-4/27/1915 ][m. 1856 Susan Sutton], Sibllla, Samuel [8/19/1828-7/02/1899][m. 12/18/1876 Elizabeth McCauley], Martha Ann [8/27/1830-9/12/1904][m. 2/17/1853 Jesse Dennis Maybee], Moses A. [1835-7/__/1864], Charlotte [6/26/1838-11/22/1917][m. 12/10/1862 Hiram Voorheis]. The 1830 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Frankford Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, the family of Thomas Beardsley [1211001:011001].3 The 1840 U.S. Federal Census enumerates at Independence Township, Oakland County, Michigan, the family of Thomas Beardslee [10110001:1101001].4 Thomas's wife, Rachel, died on 9 June 1844 in Independence Township, Oakland County, Michigan, leaving him a widower. Thomas departed this life on Saturday, 29 June 1850 in Independence Township at age 65 years, 11 months and 19 days. He was buried there in the Sashabaw Cemetery in the Sashabaw Plains. His tomestone read: 29 June 1850 age 65.11.13 years.
