On 2 August 1837, James Beardslee of Oakland Co., Michigan, purchased of the US Government 117.22 acres in Oxford Township [NW 1/4 of Section 18 T5N R10E][no. 466]. 1845, James was listed on the State of Michigan Census at Oxford Township, Oakland County, Michigan. Enumerated in this household were James W. Beardslee [11100:21100] [under 10, 10-21, 21-45, 45-75, over 75]. 9 August 1850, James and his wife, Jane, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Oxford Township. Enumerated in this household were James Birdslee [45 New Jersey], his wife: Jane [42 New York], children: William [19 Michigan], Sarah [15 Michigan], Mary [13 Michigan], & John [6 Michigan]. James is a farmer.2 26 July 1860, James and his wife, Jane, were listed on the U.S. Federal Census in Oxford Township. Enumerated in this household were James Beardsley [56 New Jersey], Jane -[52 New York], John [15 Michigan].3 James departed this life on Thursday, 26 December 1867 in Oxford Township at age 63 years. He was buried there in Oxford Township in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. His tombstone reads: 1804-1867.4
