George first appears on the tax records of Northumberland County in 1772. In 1772, he received a warrant of land, recorded in the Northumberland County Register of Land, at the Land Office, viz; Page 9, Susquehanna River, 2 #12, George Bowerman, Sur. 200, 10-13-1772, Ret. 3-24-1814, acres ret. 199-16, name of Patentee, P. Helkish and D. Woodling, Vol. H, No.9, Page 493, Book C-16, Page 28. These records are now on deposit at the Penna. State Archives, Harrisburg, Penna.

In 1775, George received another warrant of land in Penns Township, Northumberland County, Penna., consisting of 100 acres, date of survey, April 12, 1775. This property was recorded in the Northumberland County Register of Land at the Land Office, viz: Page 13, #204; George Bowerman; Sur. 100, W. 4-12-1775; Ret. 10-18-1811; Acres Book C-128, Page 4. Along the edge is penciled, “16 m. from Sunbury.”

George is recorded as a land owner in Penns Township, Northumberland Co., in 1776, and between 1778-1800 paid the State Tax in Northumberland Co. George also appears on the Weisenberg Township, Northumberland County Federal Tax Records of 1785, taxed for 150 acres.

Fisher in Early Central Pennsylvania Lineages, wrote: “Bowerman (Bauerman, Bauermann, Bowermann, etc.) BOWERMAN. Various men of this name, prior to 1800, lived in the vicinity of Grubb’s Church, Chapman Township, Snyder Co., Pa. They probably came from what was then Northampton Co., Pa. George lived in that section between 1778 and 1790, or longer. George may have been a Revolutionary soldier in Northumberland County.”

Fisher, in The Snyder County Pioneers, wrote: “George Bowerman (also Bauerman, Bauermann, Bowermann, Bourman, etc.) was probably a non-resident landowner in Penn Township. His name appears on the tax list for the first time in 1771. John and Peter may have been his sons, and were probably tenants on his land in what is now Snyder Co. In 1785, George was a resident of Weisenberg Township, Northumberland County, and was taxed there with 150 acres and personal property. In 1787, he was still designated as a non-resident land owner in Penn Township. No military record was found for him, but the compiler believes that he served in the Northampton County Militia. The U.S. Census of 1790, stated that his family had three males over and two under 16, and four females, and that he lived in Penn Township. He asked for tax exemption in 1778, because the enemy was destroying property and crops.”
George Bowerman is listed as a settler in Penns Township, Northumberland Co., 1771 in the Snyder County Annals, No. 1, published the Middleburgh Post, 1915.
