William Yelverton

     William was born circa 1402 in Rackheath, County Norfolk, England. He was heir to the estates in Rougham and Bayfield. In spite of this he followed his father into law and was a member of Gray’s Inn.1 William married Jane Gross circa 1425. From the mid 1420’s to at least the 1450’s he was active in public service in Norwich and County Norfolk where he was justice of the peace and a member of parliament 1435 and 1443 representing Great Yarmouth.2 William married 2nd Ela Brewes, daughter of Robert Brewes and Ela Stapleton, circa 1429 in Rougham, County Norfolk, England. By 1444 the Yelverton estate was in his hands. It is not known of the vehicle used, but it is likely that he obtained it at the death of Margery, wife of his half brother, possibly purchasing it from her estate. Yelverton. On 6 February 1444, he was made an associate Judge of the Court of King’s Bench in Norwich, and was made a Knight of the Bath, on 26 June 1461.3 William married 3rd Agnes Campe after 1459 in Rougham, County Norfolk, England. On 16 November 1476, William by deed made a settlement to his daughter-in-law, Margery, wife of his late son John for the manor of Markeshall and the remainder to her eldest son William and his betrothed wife.4 William departed this life on Tuesday, 27 March 1477 in Rougham. He was buried there at Rougham in the Church of St. Mary's before the image of Our Lady.

    3 May 1518 – this William Yelverton of Rackheath [William Junior above] died seized of the property intestate – James Holmes administered the estate in right of his wife Anne, sister and heir of the deceased
